A wonderfully engaging and insightful collection of stories about musicians. The author's descriptive powers are first-rate, his subject matter fascinating, and he knows how to tell a story and has something new and fresh to say. My favorite story is about two friends and roommates, former choir-mates in high school from different backgrounds, growing apart as one pursues a singing career and one aspires to be a lawyer and to move to Lincoln Park. (An added bonus for Chicagoland readers: many of the stories are set in the city.)Although I read a library copy of the book, I just bought a copy for myself and a family member, as it's a book I want to re-read and to share. The only reason it gets 4.5 stars instead of 5 is that I feel the last two stories don't measure up to the very high bar set by the previous stories.
