The estate of Robert Parker did well by getting Ace Atkins to continue the Spenser series. By the time Parker wrote the last of his Spenser books he was pretty much "dialing it in," and his final batch of books did not even come close to being as good as his first dozen or so. I began reading the Spenser series back in the 1980s or 1990s when there were only a few of them. I have read them all, and the Atkins written ones are much better than the last few Parker books. They are tighter, better written and remind me much more of the original Spenser books I enjoyed reading so much. This most recent effort by Atkins is not quite up to the level of his first few Spenser books, but it is still better than the last bunch by Parker. Any Spenser fans who have not yet done so owe it to themselves to read Atkins "Quinn Colson" Ranger books as well. They are about the best "redneck noir" you can find..
