Summary
Living with her husband Dan in Jordan for the past two years, Cassie Hugo is a military wife who has become an expert on rules. They welcome the newly arrived Brickshaws - Crick, Margaret and their son Mather, who they’ve sponsored. Margaret is intrigued with Jordan and sees her chance to explore. When a fender-bender sends Margaret to the police station, Cassie reluctantly agrees to watch Mather. As the hours pass, Cassie’s boredom and frustration turn to fear: Why isn’t Margaret answering her phone, and why is it taking so long to resolve a routine accident? Snooping around the Brickshaw’s apartment Cassie begins to question not only Margaret’s whereabouts but also her own role in Margaret’s disappearance.
Fallon writes a compelling, thought-provoking and page-turning novel that captures the nature of living abroad as a military wife. With authentic yet flawed characters that jump off the page, readers will enjoy delving further into the world of the characters during Arab Spring, as they try to navigate the ins and outs of living in a foreign culture, marriage, and friendship while piecing together the cause of Margaret’s disappearance. An intriguing story of life as military wife in the Middle East with beautiful descriptions of the landscape and culture told as only one can who has lived it.
