Overall, an enjoyable and quick read. The novel has been obviously well researched and it is full of period detail about dress, court etiquette, and current events. My main issue is that I really struggled with liking Victoria and rooting for her to succeed. She grows up a bit during the course of the book but still never graduates from being the spoiled, naïve teenager. This might be realistic, but still a little hard to read. My other annoyance with the book is that Prince Albert doesn’t arrive on scene until the last 100 pages and their romance is practically nonexistent. Hopefully, Goodwin is planning on a sequel that will better explore their relationship!
