Pure entertainment, except for a little part at the end (see below). I have to confess I haven't read the Derrick Storm books or watched any Castle episodes, but I have really enjoyed all the Heat novels after stumbling on the first one by accident when it first came out. This is vintage Heat - and really fun to read. The juxtaposition of Heat and Storm, two really different characters to manage stylistically, is very well done and a lot of fun. Throw in Heat's mother, thought to be dead for so many years, and Storms father, a real vintage character, along with Rook and Roach and it's a unique and fun ride. The plot is interesting and briefly described in the book summary from the Library. I will admit that the last 30 or so pages do have a hint of current political behavior in them, though I doubt with publishing schedules that is anything more that incidental. Oh, and Castle very overtly says the Heat/Storm partnership will appear again. Wonder how Nikki's husband, Rook, will deal with that. Enjoy!
