I want to love you that way I do now for the rest of my life....but if we leave we lose it. And I can't make an entire life to disappear to start a new one. All I can do is try to hold on to us somewhere inside of me."
"Do you think that what happened with us just happens to anyone? What we feel for each other? We're hardly....hardly two separate people now. Some people search all their life for this and never find it. Others don't even think it exists. You're going to tell me....you're going tot ell me this is the right thing to do? Giving it up?"

I loved this movie when it first came out, and then found it again recently on TV. I watched it, and this time, as an older woman, I was very aware of the age gap between Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep (19 years!). I believe that Clint did look his age at the time (65) as did Meryl Streep (46). I found it uncomfortable to watch now, thinking back on how often much older men have been paired with younger beautiful women, and how they're just supposed to melt into the arms of the wrinkled up old men. Since Clint produced and directed this movie, he obviously cast himself in the lead role. Yes, he was believable as an aging photographer, but in the book, he was supposed to be 52 years old to Francesca's 45 (a seven year age difference). That age difference would have made it much more believable to me, since Francesca's husband died before Kincaid, even though he would have been about 15 years younger (than Clint Eastwood's age).
The story of a woman who is unexpectedly drawn into a four day affair is one of the most beautiful that I have ever seen. Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood do such an amazing job of portraying their characters that I felt as though I was a part of the story. This movie has everything; love, romance, tenderness, and even some sad moments. It's definitely one of my favorites!
It's nice to have a movie where middle aged people can explore their sexuality in a farm setting.
Poignant and intriguing. Gets better after the story segues and unfolds.
Heartbreaking but loyal to marriage and family. Streep's character must wade through cataclysmic decisions.
Watched this for the very first time and was not disappointed. Always enjoy performances of both leading actors. However this story was way too heartbreaking for me and left me all so depressed.
I do not support infidelity, but do not see this story to be glorifying infidelity. It is not: it is a story of one unfulfilled, lost love, many of us may not even experience in our lifetime.
I agree with a comment bellow: one has to make sure to chose "the one" partner for lifetime very carefully. But than once again: the consummate love is not for everyone, it may happen only to the lucky ones.
Excellent music score and scenery chosen for the film.
The love story warms my heart. It is a struggle and tension between morality, family responsibility, true love, and personal happiness. Like both Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood! Two thumbs up!!
The movie, thank goodness, is better than the book. What's more surprising is that The Bridges of Madison County is an accomplished piece of movie making.
Produced and directed by Clint Eastwood, this is a 1995 American romantic drama based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Robert James Waller.
The story in the diaries reveals the impact the affair had on the lives of a farm woman and a National Geographic photographer.
The affair took place while her husband and children were at the state fair in Illinois.
She almost ran away with him to travel the world with him.
After a wrenching period of decision-making, however, she decided to stay at the last minute after considering the bigger picture that includes the consequences leaving would have on the lives of her teenage children and husband, who was a good, loving man.
After all the photographer finds meaning and his true calling as an artist.
It also has deep consequences on the lives of her son and daughter, who are both experiencing marital problems.
Their mother’s story helped them to find a sense of direction in their lives.
It is an old-fashioned love story with some meanings in terms of the present day context.
Superb are the performances of Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep.
Meryl Streep is simply magnificent in "The Bridges of Madison County". She takes the role of a Italian young war bride. You never for a minute think Meryl Streep is not Italian. Her accent is so perfect. She acts so shy and unpretentious. Clint Eastwood plays his part as a traveling photographer perfectly. He is kind and appreciative of her attention to him. I even feel that Clint might have felt his character had been in this situation before. I hope both Eastwood and Streep feel this is one of their best movies. I certainly walked away thinking about the two of them.
