Avery Grambs is sleeping in a car, trying to get through life, angry at her sister's boyfriend, and playing chess in the park, but then she is told that she has an inheritance she can claim. Avery has whisked away to a world full of lies and secrets, but she must stay for a whole year before she can claim her inheritance. Staying in a household full of people who are all mostly angry at her and clues and notes is the craziest thing Avery has done. Tobias Hawthorne, the rich billionaire and the man who owns the current mansion she lives in, has four grandsons who all believed that one day they would be the ones to inherit the money. With death threats, murder mysteries, and more Avery Kylie Grambs must survive it all.
Disappointing and not worth it.
The book was just okay, despite seeing this book and name numerous times it doesn't live up to the hype I've heard. The characters were the biggest flaw because they added no real depth to this book, and currently, any of the Hawthorne family are all mental. I also don't see the relationship between any of the characters. The story also doesn't get anywhere, the story doesn't cover a huge mystery in the book. When you finish reading the book, you realize that nothing has actually been achieved or solved besides a small thing.

I love this book so much. It's a perfect blend of "Knives Out" and the "Paper Princess" series (both of which I love!) so I knew I would like it. Just by reading the synopsis, the book seems like a carbon copy of "Knives Out," but that is not the case. The plot is so unique and kept me guessing until the end. The mystery and the fast-paced nature of the book kept me hooked and I ended up reading the entire book in one sitting. I kind of knew something was up leading up to the big twist at the end, but I think that's because I've read so many of Barnes' books. I cannot wait until the next book comes out because I want to read it now!

This is one of the best books ever!!!!!! It has just the amount of adventure with the perfect tinge of romance. I couldn't stop reading this book once I started! I highly recommend this book! I can't wait for the second book to come out in September!

An easy to read thriller, with the barest hint of romance. The twists and turns will help you devour this in one sitting.

Avery Grambs is your average teen with a list of plans-- survive high school, get a scholarship, and get out of town. But her life flips upside down when Tobias Hawthorne, a wealthy businessman, dies and leaves his entire fortune to her. The catch? Avery has never met or heard of him and to earn her inheritance she must spend a year in Hawthorne house, a place filled with secrets and puzzles. Along with that, she must survive in the house with the family Tobias had left nothing to, including the 4 Hawthorne grandsons -- dangerous and brilliant boys
who grew up believing the inheritance was theirs. Avery must navigate their world of puzzles and games to collect her inheritance and find out why she was chosen. I loved this book! All of the characters are well written and the mystery is up in the air until the very end. The second book comes out in 2021 and I’m so excited!

I really liked this book! It's an easy read full of enjoyable characters and tense moments. I'm really excited to see how the story continues when the second book comes out. Avery is an easy character to like, she's been dealt a rough hand but that changes when a billionaire who she's never met leaves nearly everything he has to her. I will say the reason I didn't give the book a full five stars is because many of the "puzzles" the characters are expected to solve are very simplistic. For a book that is all about solving riddles and puzzles they just seem too easy.
