Heather Webber's Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe is a captivating blend of magical realism, heartwarming romance, and small-town Southern charm. Nestled in the mountain shadows of Alabama lies the little town of Wicklow. It is here that Anna Kate has returned to bury her beloved Granny Zee, owner of the Blackbird Café. It was supposed to be a quick trip to close the café and settle her grandmother’s estate, but despite her best intentions to avoid forming ties or even getting to know her father’s side of the family, Anna Kate finds herself inexplicably drawn to the quirky Southern town her mother ran away from so many years ago, and the mysterious blackbird pie everybody can’t stop talking about. As the truth about her past slowly becomes clear, Anna Kate will need to decide if this lone blackbird will finally be able to take her broken wings and fly. What with the pandemic we've endured for more than a year, and no end in sight, I'm trying to stick to books that are easy to read and leave me feeling good. This is a perfect example. You'll fall in love with Wicklow Alabama and the people you meet there.

This is a great little book about a small Southern town's charm and magic. Anna Kate never knew what it felt like to have roots, friends or family. When her grandmother died and left her the cafe Anna Kate got to know the community and find many things she was missing in life.

I really love this book. It was a bit of a mystery book, but was more about family obligations and conflicts. I highly recommend it. Going to read her newest one next.

This is a lovely book full of family drama, romance and mystery. There is a touch of magic and the food descriptions will make you hungry. This sweet book is for lovers of Sarah Addison Allen or Fannie Flagg, who need that touch of whimsy when things feel difficult.

This was the first book I have read by Heather Webber. It was part romance, part mystery, part family drama and entirely well written. I really enjoyed it!

I just finished this first book in this new series by Heather Webber, and I enjoyed the humor, drama, and the colorful characters in the small town. I have thoroughly enjoyed the 24 other books over 3 different series that she's written which were categorized as cozy mysteries. Always entertaining reads. I enjoyed going on her new adventure in Wicklow, AL and it made me want to eat pie.

A fan of "Fried Green Tomatoes", its difficult not to draw parallels to this delightful debut novel. Driven by themes of forgiveness and family, the somewhat folksy Southern tone engages the reader, while the lighthearted story unravels. Evocative in many ways, the 'magic' held by her grandmother's Blackbird pies plays a key role in character arc, the mark of an accomplished author. Self discovery, unearthing long held secrets and overcoming self inflicted hurdles add to the delight. Its stories like these that remind us of why we enjoy reading. Highly recommended for all ages and genre preferences
