Internationally celebrated as one of literature’s most gifted stylists, Lisa Moore returns with her third story collection, a soaring chorus of voices, dreams, loves, and lives. Taking us from the Fjord of Eternity to the streets of St. John’s and the swamps of Orlando, these stories show us the timeless, the tragic, and the miraculous hidden in the underbelly of our everyday lives. A missing rock god may have jumped a cruise ship — in the Arctic. A grieving young woman may live next to a serial rapist. A man’s last day on earth replays in the minds of others in a furiously sensual, heartrending fugue. Something for Everyone is Moore at the peak of her prowess — she seems bent on nothing less than rewiring the circuitry of the short story itself.

A few real gems in this book of short stories. Despite mixed reviews, our Book Club very much appreciated the quality of writing . Moore is remarkable in describing our everyday tasks/activities. The stories are dark but "hey, life aint always pretty."
The nature of her writing made it hard to follow some of the stories;having Lisa Moore read them out loud may be a better option! .

This collection of stories is a little uneven.

Lisa Moore never disappoints! I had to pick up this collection of short stories after Lisa delivered a reading of the first story at the Whistler Writers Festival. She had the room in stitches: this break-neck tale shares an account of two shoe store employees having sex in the stockroom while a BOGO sale rages right outside the door.

Just as that first story elicits uncontrollable laughter, so do the others evoke intense emotional responses, from Moore's characteristic dark humour to heart-stopping moments of suspense to crushing sadness. And, as always, the province of Newfoundland and the city of St. John's are vibrant characters in most of the tales - Moore always makes me ache for my homeland.
