I didn't know what to expect in this movie but it turns out to be another cliché horror movie with a boy with red glowing eyes. Really? What a cheesy effect. Unwatchable.

ARE YOU THERE, RAO? IT'S ME KAL-EL...
or LOOK! UP IN THE SKY! IT'S A BIRD. IT'S A PLANE...IT'S COMING THIS WAYYYYY!?!?
They pitch this as tale of nature vs nuture, but it's just all scary, good old fashioned, did-I- tell -you-to-have-this-baby-even-if-you-didn't-have- this-baby melodrama...
IRREDEEMABLE, a graphic novel series in the system covers this more, of the hero turned villain, and DC's INJUSTICE, of course laid a foundation; so, why not pick the most
turbulent time in a child's life to discover they CAN be faster than a speeding bullet,
more powerful then a locomotive, and leap tall buildings in a single bound... not that there
appear to be any in this sleepy little Kansas town.
Take the BAD SEED, and put him in a cape in the middle of nowhere USA, and you have BRIGHTBURN... Love the cameo in the end credits of MERLE as another Alex Jones, the most credible performance in the film's entirety... even Banks' "mother" seems to be pushing it, like a boy who can fly is a license to throw out all the stops everywhere else.
At least it stops while he's still a teen, this time.. watch for BRIGHTBURN II: YOU'RE NOT MY REAL MOTHER!!.. easy to say since he kills pretty much everyone with any percieved relationship to him, glad they never introduced a dog.. the chickens were enough to
show the ticking bomb that proved... "THAT BOY AIN'T RIGHT."

Storytelling has many rules, including "Every protagonist needs at least one antagonist".
In comic books universes, there is an even higher rule: "Every protagonist must have a nemesis".
Unfortunately, Brandon Breyer, the super-powerful invulnerable 12 year old at the center of this story, has no nemesis, and barely any antagonists.
RECOMMENDED FOR: "Brightburn" will be very entertaining for comic book readers that are into alternate universes.
NOT RECOMMENDED FOR: If you are not into comics or horror, there is almost nothing here for you. The plot of the movie is about 2 sentences long.

An interesting take on what would it would be like if Superman was evil. Overall I didn't hate it but upon closer inspection there are quite a few holes.

The plot is basically "What if" Superman grew up evil.

Felt the same way as the previous three reviewers that it is along the line of The Omen (Except the boy is from outer-space) and an example of good/bad film: good actors especially Elizabeth Banks and an okay script handicapped by a low budget.

A bad movie. But a GOOD bad movie. Mainly because the horror scenes were tense and Elizabeth Banks IS a good actress. However, the potentially good plot and everything around it just couldn't seem to get this movie off the ground. While not the worst of 2019 (That'd be Dumbo), I won't go out of my way to watch this again.

Don't worry, smart guys end up ruling the planet.
===
Uh, well, um, bees are pollinators, and wasps are predators.
-Good, good. Anybody else?
And wasps are more aggressive, more dangerous. One species, the Polistes sulcifer, is what's called a brood parasite, they've lost the ability to make nests, so they use brute force to make other wasp species to raise their young. And they make them feed their babies things like beetle larvae and maggots.

You know you just had your birthday, winch means that you are becoming a young man and uh.. Your body is changing. Ok. Well we start developing, you know, feelings about women, women's bodies.. I was just like you when I was your age, I also thought about girls all the time. You know, nobody was around to tell me that, It was ok to.. Uh.. Touch it or play with it..
-With what?
Ah you know with.. Your penis.
-Ok.
Look the thing about, you know, sex, it's not.. It's not about organs or body parts.. I mean, you know, it is that too but.. You know, it's about finding the right person and then falling in love. Look all I'm saying is: You are a guy, you know, and you are gonna have certain urges, you know, about girls you see in films or girls in class or whatever.. And I'm just saying that it's ok to give into them now and again.
-Like.. Now?
