Fall in love with this hilarious and heartwarming USA Today bestselling romantic comedy that LJ Shen calls "an absolute treat."
Kristen Peterson doesn't do drama, will fight to the death for her friends, and has no room in her life for guys who just don't get her. She's also keeping a big secret: facing a medically necessary procedure that will make it impossible for her to have children.
Planning her best friend's wedding is bittersweet for Kristen -- especially when she meets the best man, Josh Copeland. He's funny, sexy, never offended by her mile-wide streak of sarcasm, and always one chicken enchilada ahead of her hangry. Even her dog, Stuntman Mike, adores him. The only catch: Josh wants a big family someday. Kristen knows he'd be better off with someone else, but as their attraction grows, it's harder and harder to keep him at arm's length.
The Friend Zone will have you laughing one moment and grabbing for tissues the next as it tackles the realities of infertility and loss with wit, heart, and a lot of sass.
"Your next favorite romantic comedy... The Friend Zone is that rare beach read with tons of heart that will make you laugh and cry in equal parts." ---PopSugar
"Your next rom-com to obsess and cry over." -- - Cosmopolitan

Fun, sexy, contemporary romance set in LA. I liked the alternating chapters (which I'm seeing so much these days!) and I found the dialogue believable and the chemistry scorching. I did appreciate the author venturing to include infertility into the story line. I have to say, though, I was a little disappointed with the ending, but overall, super fun and fast read.

Sassy modern rom-com about Kristen, a successful business woman with mild OCD problems, who meets an amazing man named Josh who, for various important reasons, she simply can't have a romantic relationship with. So Kristen tries really hard to keep super-hot Josh confined to the infamous frozen "Friend Zone." But Josh has something else in mind! I really enjoyed the electric chemistry between the two main characters.

Sexy, sassy, swoony: if you're looking for a new book boyfriend, meet Josh. He's talented with his hands (carpenter!), he's funny and kind, and he has amazing chemistry with Kristen. A hot book to warm you up on a cold day.

Definitely more than just a romantic story. It has two interesting main characters and more than a few emotional hills and valleys. It’s far from perfect but worth the journey.

I first heard about this book from the book devoted to the "50 book pledge," as a fellow group member wrote about it. Normally I am a murder mystery reader but I decided that this would be my step-out-of-the-box read. I am glad I picked it up. It was a read for your feelings. It was light and airy but the serious subjects laced in where done so in a flawless manner. The characters were pretty well rounded and dynamic. What really seals the deal is the unveiling of a surprise and Sloan's appearance. (readers will know which parts I mean). I really enjoyed it. It is a give and take though chapter wise. One is written in Kristen's point of view and the next in Josh's point of view. So if you have a hard time with that just a heads up. It is the perfect book to touch your heart while not being too too heavy. **Warning: has an underlying theme of infertility**

Another wonderful addition for the rom-com genre in my books! The Friend Zone delivered with a sassy heroine and a charming male lead! There were many laugh out loud moments and it was super swoon worthy! What I really like was all the serious themes that were intrinsically tied into the plot. I laughed with these characters and I cried with them throughout their journey.

An easy-flowing plot with some intense scenes, Kristen and Josh's tumultuous love story will draw you in and satisfy your appetite for romance with a touch of drama. Kristen's struggles with fertility issues will resonate with many readers. But will her no-nonsense attitude be too much for Josh to handle?

Although the book is generally well-written, and the banter between the protagonists can be entertaining, it has some significant problems. First, it reinforces some unfortunate stereotypes (Big surprise with a name like "The Friend Zone", right?). Chief among these is the so-called "cool girl" ideal. This is not just a regrettable slip; the author literally uses "cool girl" in reference to Kristen, the main protagonist, on more than one occasion, and even calls her a "unicorn", and has Josh, the other protagonist, talk about how she is a "cool girl" in a hot girl's body. Reinforcing the idea that femininity and female-ness are incompatible with being a fun, likable person isn't "cool" at all. Secondly, the author chooses to kill off a secondary character in a heart-wrenching manner that really dims the "happily ever after" moment for the protagonists. And lastly, and perhaps most unforgivably, this book- which was publicized as an affirming story about finding romance in the face of infertility- literally undoes all of Kristen's journey of self-acceptance with a totally unnecessary "surprise" ending. This is definitely not an #ownvoices read for people struggling with fertility issues looking for a realistic and affirming happy ending.

I think Kristen has got to be one of the snarkiest heroines I've ever read, and unapologetic about it to boot. Which was fine, but she also was a roller coaster ride of stubbornness that had more to do with pride than raging hormones and bad cramps. Her constant back and forth with Josh--bless his ever patient, loving soul--drove me nuts. Halfway through, I was ready to pull out my hair. But if you stop there, you'll miss out on other important developments that set the tone for the next book (Sloan's story). Overall, it's an entertaining read (I was totally rooting for Josh), if you can tolerate the crazy drama of Kristen's I-love-you-but-I-can't-have-you-You're-better-off-with-someone-else mantra. 3.5 stars
