A one-of-a-kind book about a one-of-a-kind character written by the actor who plays the young genius, Spencer, on Criminal Minds. Despite his five crooked teeth, three strands of hair, scaly green skin and different-sized feet, you can't help but find Rumple Buttercup endearing. Though it looks like a chapter book and actually does have three chapters, it's actually more like a picture book in terms of the illustrations, number of words per page, and content of the story. It's too bad every single non-Rumple, human character has white skin. Particularly on the page where Rumple compares himself to all of the "not being weird" people, it would have been nice if there were some people of color included. I'm afraid people of color may get the message that they are more like "weird" Rumple than the not-weird white people. And very surprised to see that the Kirkus review mentions nothing of this, considering their practice since 2015 of explicitly mentioning skin color in all reviews.
