One hundred years before Ender's Game , the aliens arrived on Earth with fire and death. This is the story of the First Formic War.

Victor Delgado beat the alien ship to Earth, but just barely. Not soon enough to convince skeptical governments that there was a threat. They didn't believe that until space stations and ships and colonies went up in sudden flame.

And when that happened, only Mazer Rackham and the Mobile Operations Police could move fast enough to meet the threat.
Fans of Ender's Game will thrill to Orson Scott Card and Aaron Johnston's Earth Afire .

Earth Afire --- by --- Orson Scott Card.
After you’ve finished “Earth Unaware” you just had to read “Earth Afire”. Things only get worse: the Formics orbit Earth and send Landers three of them, to Earth to start their process of “terrifying” or "terra-forming" the planet (ours) so as to make it habitable for them.
Once again, the action doesn't stop. For sure this is an action book that reads like an action movie. The sad part is when you learn, as you start to reach the end of the book there’s another book, “Earth Awakens” to go before you find out what happens next. Cliff-hangers, I think, they used to call these. I can’t wait.

Earth Afire - Ender Book – Formic Wars Trilogy – Volume 2; my fourteenth Orson Scott Card book of which 11 are from the Ender series. The trilogy which started with ‘Earth Unaware’ really picks up the pace in volume 2. ‘Earth Awakens’ is next. I rated this book as excellent. Doctor-at-Bass! Taylor A.

Earth Afire - Ender Book – Formic Wars Trilogy – Volume 2; the prequel trilogy to Ender’s Game and many other books began at a faster pace than book one - ‘Earth Unaware.’ The pace picked up through the book to a strong finish leaving the reader wanting more. This was my 4th Ender’s book: I rated this book as very good to excellent. ‘Earth Awakens’ is next. Senior Doctor-at-Bass! D. A.

after"earth unaware"

Second in BEFORE EARH AWAKENS, backgrournd to Ender's Game. Plot still moves at a great pace with interesting war technology and soldier psychology. The book ends on a cliff hanger, but we know they win, we just wonder if the capitalists and the solipsistic nations will get their come-uppance for their delay in combining forces against the formic invasion.

Okay, so this is Book #2. It follows #1 "Earth Unaware" very well and if you happen to read it first (which you shouldn't) you still get some background about how this series started. This book continues with descriptions of Formics, their weapons and their technology, and carries the story forward. I'm only sorry that Book #3 "Earth Awakens" is still not in and there are 2 holds for the 2 books the Library system is buying. Sigh, so I guess I wait. I hope you enjoy this read as much as I did.

The book Ender's game left many questions unanswered like how did the humans defeat the Formics during the first invasion? Or what was the destruction of China? All of these and many more are answered in this very intense novel that I just couldn't put down. The characters range from the one who tries to warn earth to the ones who are trying to protect it to the ones who wish to ignore it. Anyone who loved Ender's game will love this.

Read 'Earth Unaware' first as lots of character development is accomplished in that volume which definitely helps you keep track of the numerous characters, how they wound up where they did, how they know what they know about the enemy and of course their motivations.
That being said, I anxiously await the next installment. I have not read Sci-Fi in decades and I am loving this series! If you like true sci-fi (not fantasy, dragons, etc) this is the series to read!

Very good SF. Suggest "Earth Unaware" be read first, but you really don't need to to enjoy this one.
