Directed by David Leveaux in 2017 based on the 2003 novel "The Kaiser's Last Kiss" by Alan Judd, this war-time romance-thriller depicts a fictionalized account of the life of exiled Kaiser Wilhelm who unintentionally gets involved with a British spy.
Intrigueingly well crafted, this story will engage you from the start to the end.

I like this spy movie very much, with intriguing romance and love story. I love the choice of the end of the movie regarding any spy..... Christopher Plummer performed an excellent acting. a Movie worthwhile to watch.

Despite the excellent actors I never finished this film. Christopher Plummer - hard to believe he's 89 in Dec 2018 - always outstanding. Janet Mc T. & Eddie Marson, always excellent in any character. Jai Courtney....holy cow is all I can write. lily James, kind of lackluster.

Is it a romance? Or spy movie? Or an espionage thriller? It’s a bizarre romance, of an improbable story that you shouldn’t think about too much or too long. Christopher Plummer is great, of course. They didn’t dive into the atrocities very much, but mentioned them as needed.

Plummer is the 'exception' and the anchor in this pseudo-sexo-politico thriller with his tongue-in-cheek Kaiser accent while the rest the cast are...oh well, pretty good. Ben Daniels looks like 007 Craig's brother, yet they are not related.

It is a decent story with so much potential that has gone to waste. Good solid cast and yet it is not memorable (whereas the other one with Plummer, “Remember”, is way more impressive), and the romantic line baffles me. I know the protagonists are eye candies, and yet this feels very forced.

Surprisingly good!

Excellent story.
Another great performance by Plumber as the old Kaiser.
Funny, when you least expect it to be.

As for falling in love with a "rapist"--well, people have done stranger things. Consider please, the time, place and people involved. Could it happen? Is it plausible? Sure. Enough said.

This is not a bad film, but it plays fast and loose with historical facts. The story imagines a slightly altered timeline of events surrounding the German occupation of the Netherlands, most notably the time between the German invasion of the Netherlands, which occurred in 1940, and the death of the Kaiser and German invasion of Russia, both of which took place in 1941. As described in the story a detachment of Wehrmacht troops under the command of an SS Officer was sent to guard Wilhelm II, but Krebbs ( in this case Brandt ) is an imagined character. Churchill offered the Kaiser asylum in the United Kingdom, but the invitation was conveyed to him in different circumstances to those portrayed. Heinrich Himmler did not visit the Kaiser at Huis Doorn, but Hermann Göring did. Of course according to Hollywood, a love story is always preferable to the truth. Both the Nazis and British wanted to exploit the former Kaiser, for good or ill. All is fair in love and war. I am more of a fan of historical fiction based upon fact than impossible time lines and the schmaltz of the obligatory love story. This is an inherently interesting piece of history and could have been told better. Very mild recommendation. Kristi & Abby Tabby

Bit of a slow start but picked up. I felt the film was a little at a distance, in that the suspense and emotions of the characters were a little distant from the audience. There was a sense that everything would be ok rather than giving a sense of the unknown futures of the characters. Christopher Plummer was good in the role of the kindly Kaiser. Watch Lily James in Downton Abbey, Cinderella and War and Peace.
