It should have been a case like any other: a missing princess, a king willing to pay in gold for her return. But before he realizes it, private investigator Eddie LaCrosse, a slightly shopworn sword jockey with a talent for discretion and detection, is swept up in a web of mystery and deceit involving a brutally murdered royal heir, a queen accused of an unspeakable crime, and the tragic past he thought he'd left behind.

If you like gritty, detective noir, crime fiction with a fantasy twist, this is the book for you! I enjoyed this story pretty well. I do have to point out that I never figured out where the title came from... Anyway, Eddie LaCrosse is likable in a gruff, "grumbly bear" way and his narration of the story is compelling. I didn't like ALL the characters (Epona) - but obviously, you aren't supposed to. I REALLY like the man who narrated - his voice is PERFECT! - which makes the story, in my opinion. If the person who reads an audiable book does a bad job, then the story looses a lot! On to book 2!
