What makes decent people become criminals? There is an underlying sweetness, empathy, and humanity in this series that makes it such compelling viewing. We watch the main characters, not inherently bad people, skimming below the edge of the law. Like Walter White in Breakin’ Bad, they wrestle with their darker sides as forces beyond their control drive them deeper into bitterness, callousness, and criminality. Slippin’ Jimmy is a small time con man who made good and became a lawyer. His relationship with Kim is endearing; he looked after his brother through thick and thin until brutally betrayed and left with few options for financial survival. Ex-cop Mike has a code of honour, but he'll do what’s necessary to provide a good lifestyle for his widowed daughter-in-law and grandchild. Nacho is revolted by his violent drug boss and wants to protect his own father from the cartel. We see him trying to control the situation and then losing his family foundation. The writing and acting are superb. So much is communicated non-verbally by the character’s face. We know what they’re feeling. It’s heart rending, because we care about these characters, we understand why they make the choices they do, and we wonder what we would do in their situation as we watch them slippin’ down the slippery slope.

I've enjoyed binge-watching Better Call Saul as much as Breaking Bad. For some it may be slow moving but it's intended to be a gradually unfolding character drama that draws you in and makes you feel empathy for even the most unsavory characters. By end of this 3rd season, it feels like the point where Breaking Bad carries on is just over the horizon.

Pound for pound this is still one of the best dramas on television. Great character development and dialogue mixed with interesting stories and locations. It's a winner and a perfect prequel to the equally magnificent Breaking Bad. 21st Century TV at its finest.

A wonderful continuation to the makings of Saul Goodman. Stands up to the quality of the previous two seasons and its predecessor Breaking Bad.

If you liked the "Saul" character in "Breaking Bad" or enjoyed S1 & S2, check this out as the drug trade players (Gus" Fring, Lydia Rodarte-Quayle, Hector Salamanca, henchman Victor) began to show their faces after smoked out by ex-cop Mike Ehrmantraut. Meanwhile, lovable, sweet but bent lawyer Jimmy McGill chose the “S'all Goodman” moniker for yet another business venture to make ends meet, hoping for a better future with his true love Kim Wexler in S4 coming to AMC in the fall of 2018.

Yes, there are a few holes in the story; or once in a great while the dialogue sounds false; but I enjoy the characters and the stories...
