The autobiography of American celebrity chef Lidia Matticchio Bastianich. Lidia spent her childhood in Pola, on the Istrian peninsula. When Istria was annexed by Yugoslavia during Tito's communist regime, her family escaped to Trieste, where they spent two years in a refugee camp waiting for visas to enter the United States. At the age of 12, Lidia started a new life in New York, and got a job in a bakery, which led to her life in the food business.
