These are 6 short stories with puzzles and quirky characters and curious events. Chesterton's dry humor is on display.
While the English did not produce great intellectual artistic movements like Dada and Surrealism, there is a strong, unique tradition of eccentric, often visionary, and fantastic literature by writers like Dickens, Carroll, Stapledon, Tolkien, Machen, and many more which Chesterton is quite at home in. His writing is particularly witty and offbeat. He, and many of these writers, were favorites of J L Borges who read them in preference to the more illustrious Continental writers, and I think with good reason. Give this small book of short tales a try.
