Compiled by music historian, Tony Russell - This well-researched collection of "roots" music performers offers the reader vivid portraits of the men and women who created country music. These are the artists whose lives and songs formed the rich tradition from which Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, The Dixie Chicks, and so many others have drawn their inspiration.

Included here are not only such major figures as Jimmie Rodgers, The Carter Family, Fiddlin' John Carson, and Gene Autry, who put country music on America's cultural map in the 1920's and '30's, but many fascinating lesser-known figures as well, such as Carson Robison, Otto Gray, Emry Arthur and dozens more, many of whose stories are told here for the first time.

All-in-all - This book is a lively mix of colorful tales and anecdotes, enhanced by more than 200 illustrations, many of them seldom seen and some never before published, including artist photographs, cartoons, advertisements, and magazine covers, recreating the look and feel of the entire culture of country music.

Before Rock'n'Roll - Before Elvis Presley, Hank Williams, and Bob Dylan - There was another kind of music taking shape behind the scenes in America.

And, because of the drastic evolution of popular music that was quickly shifting gears in the early 1950's - This original "old-time" music got firmly pushed to the wayside where today it has now become almost forgotten.

Meticulously written and researched by British music historian, Tony Russell - "Country Music Originals" takes a close-up look at the careers of over 100 country music performers from yesteryear (the 1920's to the 1940's).

Along with plenty of informative text - This book also includes over 200 vintage stills of the legends and the lost of those bygone days.
