Very confusing....a lot of build up for nothing really.

... existential depressed people who yearned to be free and wanted changes in their lives in the early 1960s. Watched the ending a couple times carefully and felt it was too convoluted and ambiguous for a Highsmith novel. So, thumbed through the book's final chapter... very different and much better. If the author were alive, she probably would not approve the butchering of her story by the screen writer.

I agree with the previous commentor however I did enjoy this film. The scenes; interior and exterior; decor, clothing, etc., reminded me very much of the early 1960s. The film was shot in Ohio, likely in small towns reminiscent of that era. Eddie Marsan, a British character actor (Little Dorrit) was excellent as usual. I found the dialogue a bit stilted. A good "cat and two mice" film!

Starting from a Patricia Highsmith novel, this should have been a decent movie, but the screenplay just doesn't make the grade, and the actors and director (Andy Goddard) are not up to the job of rescuing it. The only thing that makes this film watchable are the striking visuals. There is a great deal of Douglas Sirk in the interiors and the colours - and even a tip of the hat to Carol Reed's moving shadows at the end. The music too evokes the suspense movies of the 1950s and 1960s. Cinema buffs will enjoy those aspects, but as a dramatic story the film is not a success.

Okay time waster that was NOT very well acted. The story was fine, until the end, and not really closed off but left up to you to decide and in most cases that is great for conversation but this time it should have been closed up better IMO.

I liked this movie. Was there any bad language? What no F-words and blinding. If there was I did not pick it up. I just love those older model cars. The made in America when 95% was not from somewhere else. For me anyway worth a watch.

We found it engrossing and absorbing - didn't talk much except to try and decide did he or didn't he? LOVE LOVE LOVE Patricia Highsmith and watch anything adapted from her.

There was really nothing "Hitchcock" about this other than a couple scenes' lighting. The acting was a little stilted, and the story was pretty predictable, but we talked about it as it played and we pointed out interesting quirks and errors, so popcorn and a chat type movie rather than a thriller.

Wishing someone dead. It's fascinating. I haven't done anything wrong. We're all guilty of something. I'm a writer. I write stories.
