"Drawing on a wealth of first-hand testimony, the German War is the first foray for many decades into how the German people experienced the Second World War. Told from the perspective of those who lived through it - soldiers, school-teachers and housewives; Nazis, Christians and Jews - its masterful historical narrative sheds fresh and disturbing light on the beliefs, hopes and fears of people who embarked on, continued and fought to the end a brutal war of conquest and genocide."

Just excellent. Furnishes an understanding of what it was like from their side. Very revealing.

I'm German-American. This book answers many questions I had about what it was like for regular Germans. Its heavy, and at times difficult to swallow as this is my heritage. But necessary.

Excellent book. This answered many of the questions I've had for years, even after reading lots of Germany WW2 books. Highly recommend if you want to know what it was like for the "regular" people.

This book does a great job of describing World War II from the perspective of German civilians and soldiers. It makes use of letters, diaries and other sources.
