What a great book about the late 60's. If you lived through that amazing time you will love this book. The author was her road manager assigned by her manager to keep his eye on Janis while she was on the road.

From this vantage point the author has a unique perspective which is quite different from the usual band perspective.

Well written, first hand account of the explosive rise and much too short-lived career of a music icon. There is much in the book that clarifies details, such as why there isn't more film footage of Janis's appearance at the Monterey Pop Festival. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Well written and quite informative, Cooke was there and has the info from the inside. If you want to hear a fresh, complex portrait of this artist, this is a great place to start.
