The New York Times bestselling author of The Beach House, Jemima J, and Summer Secrets presents a novel about the pleasure and meaning of finding a home-and family-where you least expect them... When Emma Montague left the strict confines of upper-crust British life for New York, she felt sure it would make her happy. Away from her parents and expectations, she felt liberated, throwing herself into Manhattan life replete with a high-paying job, a gorgeous apartment, and a string of successful boyfriends. But the cutthroat world of finance and relentless pursuit of more began to take its toll. This wasn't the life she wanted either. On the move again, Emma settles in the picturesque waterfront town of Westport, Connecticut, a world apart from both England and Manhattan. It is here that she begins to confront what it is she really wants from her life. With no job, and knowing only one person in town, she channels her passion for creating beautiful spaces into remaking the dilapidated cottage she rents from Dominic, a local handyman who lives next door with his six-year-old son. Unlike any man Emma has ever known, Dominic is confident, grounded, and committed to being present for his son whose mother fled shortly after he was born. They become friends, and slowly much more, as Emma finds herself feeling at home in a way she never has before. But just as they start to imagine a life together as a family, fate intervenes in the most shocking of ways. For the first time, Emma has to stay and fight for what she loves, for the truth she has discovered about herself, or risk losing it all. In a novel of changing seasons, shifting lives, and selfless love, a story unfolds-of one woman's far-reaching journey to discover who she is truly meant to be

I absolutely adored this book! I even cried on the train (very embarrassing). I would love to just pack up and move to beautiful Connecticut. (I wish).

I read this for the Feb. t-shirt/book promotion on-line. The author kept my interest and surprised me as well.

Another great story by Jane Green! I always look forward to her books because they are among the best in women's fiction. In addition, they are all so different; totally different stories with different endings. One never knows what to expect from this author. Great read!!

This book is very disappointing. How is it that Emma went to the hospital in the back of an ambulance then drove home afterwards. As far as her parents coming from England - well I think they must have used a time machine.

What starts out and progresses as a nice love story takes an abrupt turn for the worse. Out of nowhere, the author changes the pace and I was left thinking....did someone else write the ending?

Move over Nicholas Sparks! Falling: a love story will have you laughing and crying and hoping for a happy ending.

A rental home by the beach in Westport Connecticut is exactly what 37 yr old. Brit Emma Montague is looking for now that she's left her high finance job in New York and is trying to figure out what's next.

Her landlord, Dominic DiFranco, is a local boy who rents out one of the homes he inherited from his Italian grandparents while he lives in the other one next door with his 6 yr old son, Jesse. Dom tends bar at night to be able to raise Jesse alone.

Everybody loves Dom and Emma finds herself drawn to him even as she's terrified of interacting with a child.

Though they have very different upbringings, they are determined to build a life together and give Jesse a stable, love-filled home.

Love and life never run smooth and theirs is no exception. How everyone handles what fates befall them makes this a story where laughter and tears blend well.
