Woodson perfectly captures the magic of friendship between girls growing up together in difficult circumstances. She painted a crystal clear picture of the times, and of the places that filled their lives and the strength they drew from each other.
A transporting listen (or read) about a young girl growing up in Brooklyn. Poetic, musical language; about memory, love, youth. Best audiobook in a long time!
I don't think I've ever given a book a single star but this book has to be the dumbest book I've ever read/listened to. There are 3 cb's in this audiobook. Disc 1 is about this small town in the south. It's quirky and funny and I really enjoyed it. I anxiously put in disc 2 and had absolutely no idea what was going on!! It's like a whole other book. It's dark and solemn. I listened to the whole disc and never figured out why the switch. I put in disc 3 hoping all the pieces would come together but it was about 5 minutes long and the the credits rolled. I was left hanging, I never did figure it out. It was a total waste of my time.
