Father Damien devotes himself to the leper colony of Molokai. This is an inspiring story of the saint who persevered and served in spite of opposition within the church and government. While skilled makeup shows the ravages of leprosy, the cast includes those who were former patients on the island and bear the scars of the disease.

Even on a decent-sized computer monitor (e.g. 10 3/4 inches H x 18 3/4 inches W) the closed-captions are so tiny they're barely readable (unless you really want to sit with your head and eyes just a few inches away from the monitor. Seated so close to a computer monitor is a good way to get cancer but hardly worth it the trouble for one movie)

Very good movie. The story of Father Damien's life is very inspiring. Though there is some content that may not be for kids and some of the lepers might freak out sensitive children. Otherwise a wonderful film.

Williamson: Are you sure that only Catholics go to Heaven?
Father Damien: No, not certain. But I think Catholics can go to Heaven.
