A wonderful story about a boy exploring conservation, friendship, and a plastic-eating creature!

Nice story with an ecological bent - great add-on to an Earth Sciences unit at school.

While this is ostensibly a story of the discovery of a new animal (who eats plastic and poops toxic waste), it seemed to me to be more about change and how we react to it. Changing friendships, changing environments, and changing lives. I loved the writing and Obe's kind heart and determination. I hope this will win some awards.

This book has gotten a lot of traction on the blogs. It was enjoyable, but I felt that it didn't quite live up to the buzz. Overall, Obe was an interesting character to follow and the storyline was compelling. I thought that the whole thing felt a little far-fetched, and despite being fantasy, didn't quite seem authentic. However, despite that, I think children will enjoy this one.
