In spite of a great premise, acting and production values, it was just too graphically and continually violent. Also, there are no subtitles available and with the various thick accents I kept missing vital dialogue.

My favorite series! Cillian Murphy is excellent!

Peaky Blinders is a period piece gangster series set in a similar time frame as the fan favorite Downton Abbey. Where Downton Abbey is refined and posh, Peaky Blinders is violent and gritty. The visuals and soundtrack perfectly add to the aesthetic of the show. The name refers to a gang that wore razor blades in the brim of their hats that they would use to 'blind' their adversaries. We follow the Shelby family as the head of house Thomas Shelby works to better their standing through whatever means necessary.

The show is full of equal parts violence, drama, and suspense with a splash of romance thrown in from time to time. The seasons are short, so be careful not to get lost in a season and finish it in one day. Also be careful not to stare directly into Thomas Shelby's (Cillian Murphy) lovely blue eyes. You may never be able to look away.

Too violent for me!

Binge-worthy series. Be sure to activate the subtitles because the Irish accent among the poor & working-class is very strong and you may have to rewind in a few instances.
Perfectly illustrates the animosity between the brits and the Irish in Birmingham UK. If you liked the Crawleys you will be amazed at the contrast between them and the Murphys. 5 *****s

Ggood movie and music but very hard to understand the language sometime you can't even understand what is said.

Cillian Murphy is an excellent actor and a perfect choice as the subdued crime boss in this series. Sam Neill is better here than in anything else I've seen him in. The soundtrack rocks (esp. Nick Cave's "Red Right Hand"), and I'm definitely hooked for the duration. FIVE STARS.

This show grew on me, I ended up loving it. Great actors, very well cast and music to intensify the whole experience. Looking forward to Season Two.

Arthur: You think we can take on the Chinese and Billy Kimber. Billy's got a bloody army--
Thomas: I think, Arthur. That's what I do. I think. So that you don't have to.
Major Campbell: One thing I have that you and I are opposites, but also just the same. Like an image in a mirror. We hate people. And they in turn hate us. And fear us. Before the day is over, your heart will be broken...just the same as mine. Men like us, Mr Shelby...will always be alone. And what love we get...we will have to pay for.
I think, what it're bad men, but you're our bad men.
Tommy: The one minute. The soldier's minute. In a battle, that's all you get. One minute of everything at once. And anything before is nothing. Everything after...
nothing. Nothing in that one minute.

Polly: You have your mother's common sense, but your father's devilment. I see them fighting. Let your mother win.
Grace: Happy or sad (song?)
Thomas: Sad.
Grace: Okay. But I warn you, it'll break your heart.
Thomas: Already broken.
Polly: Did you fall for Tommy?
Grace: Yes.
Polly: Then I pity you.
Grace: You think I am a whore?
Tommy: Everyone's a whore, Grace. We just sell different parts of
Polly praying: Dear Lord, make this day pass well. Let none get hurt and make them that do, not Shelbys. Watch John because he has so many depending on him. Watch Arthur because he's as likely to hurt himself as anyone else. And watch Thomas. I know how he is. But he does what he does for us... I think.
