This Pulitzer prize winning book made me laugh and cry. I love Maggie and Ira. I always feel like I personally know Anne Tyler's characters because Anne's insight into human nature is so spot on. It helps that this was made into a movie that works so well with James Garner and Joanne Woodward. There is a funny scene where Maggie stands and starts singing ridiculously at her friends funeral much to Ira's extreme embarrassment. Also, their love in spite of their opposite personalities is touching. I saw friends and family, and a little of myself, in this wonderful book.
This book was ok. I read it because I had purchased it years ago at a library sale.
This is a story about a couple and marriage. The woman is too ditzy to be good, but the book is funny.
Read it, but didn't like it. I felt uncomfortable with the personalities and their petty world. Amazing that the whole story takes place in one day. I just wanted it to be over.
Maggie Moran plans to reunite her son with his estranged wife and baby.
