An interesting account of the roller coaster life of a prominent Toronto businessman and militia leader in the early decades of the 20th century. Sir Henry Pellatt's downfall was the grand mansion that he built just after the First World War. As the Great Depression approached, Pellatt's speculator income failed to keep up with his mounting expenditures - forcing him into bankruptcy. The author has written a readable story although melodrama may have crept in when he implies that one of Sir Henry's banking associates may have been murdered and Lady Pellatt may have committed suicide. Sir Henry's castle remains a Toronto landmark. The book provides endnotes but lacks an index.
