Fast paced banter with a plot that lives up to today’s issues. Admiration for Rosalind!

Hello, my usual suggestion and complain that library does not carry regular DVD? I like many others do not have Blu-ray player. Please keep at least one DVD. Thank you

A very quick and snappy comedy - one must listen carefully to get the humor, but you can't laugh because the next joke comes so quickly! The plot is zany, and is constantly flipping around. The commentary track is okay (there isn't much…

Not as good as I'd hoped. The best part is watching how fast Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell can talk.

Not impressed. Didn't find this one very funny at all. I love Cary Grant but I don't like this movie much.. I found it uninteresting for the most part and honestly my favorite scene was the last one. This is a classic, but it's not for me.

Screwball comedies were a Depression-era staple. Surely His Girl Friday marks an apex of this form of cinema. The legacy of this marvelous film can be seen right up to the present in movies like Game Night and Destination Wedding. Steven…

Except for the subtle plot element entailing Communist propaganda; "production for use", it's a pretty entertaining film.

Hildy (Rosalind Russell) is the smartest, hardest working newspaper reporter in what was then a mans' world. Cary Grant is her former editor and husband, Walter Burns. Russell and Grant had amazing chemistry and what follows is a movie…

This is Roselind Russell's second greatest performance,in my opinion,in His Girl Friday,I love her more in Auntie Mame, which the library should have in it's collection.

VERY GOOD 1939 movie (according to copyright in opening film credits). The plot mixes changing/evolving government, newspaper publishing, criminal courts, romance, comedy, and more. Fun to see more whacky 1940's ladies high end dresses -…

Released in 1940, this film features rapid-fire smart dialog. I would rate "His Girl Friday" at 5.0 stars. Why can't modern movies feature rapid-fire smart dialog? I can only conclude that major motion picture studios during the…

Don't miss watching this classic screwball comedy. Cary Grant has some great lines: "He looks like that fellow in the movies.......Ralph Bellamy" and "Listen, the last man that said that to me was Archie Leach, a week before he cut his…

As the battling ex-spouses, Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell are pure comedy gold; their verbal sparring and witty comebacks practically fly off the screen at breakneck speed overseen by Howard Hawks’ frantic direction which keeps the…

The cinematic equivalent of sensory overload: the dialogue is so fast and the plot so torturous that you almost feel exhausted when it is over. Which is not to say it is anything less than a complete work of genius--when they say they…

This is a charming and roguish film about the early years of newspaper reporting and the lengths that some will go for a story. An editor tries to stop his ex-wife from re-marrying and quitting her job and he ultimately succeeds…

Note to my grandchildren: Much of the humor in this movie depends on antique ideas and technology. In those days people learned about current events by reading a "newspaper" that was printed (like today, but in 2-D) a couple of times each…

There is an excellent remake with Burt Reynolds and Kathleen Turner, "Switching Channels", and even a Billy Wilder version, "The Front Page" where the "couple" are Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau! All excellent films.
